Paper Days

This related project allowed me to begin to explore participatory (and collaborative) practise.

This was a fashion shoot/event. The intention was to explore the relationship between creativity and commercial necessity; playing with the boundaries between: fine art, fashion, photography, self promotion.

The models were asked to take an active creative part in this process. They were asked  to form their own outfit/props on the day, using recycled newspaper, to compliment their chosen piece of bags2riches jewellery, but most importantly to express their personality.

Project designed by Anna Roebuck of bags2riches, photography by Mandakini

Reflections

It  was quite a steep learning curve ready for the ‘Re-form’ project on the need for forward planning and promoting the event. The first day was pretty slow and we had to find volunteer models (despite sending out e.mails to BA and MA students and friends), people came at once right at the end so things were rushed and the results reflected this. The second day was great. There was a consistent flow of people. By accident we were able to see how it worked as a one to one session and a group session, they had very different dynamics, but both worked well.

It was important to ascertain what my role was in the event and for me to not try and do everything. Clearer instructions would have helped this. I was also trying to photgraph the activity whilst supporting the activity and this didn’t work - a camera could have been set up to take stills at timed intervals/video.

I’ve spent hours saving photo’s etc and starting to upload them - I definately want  the blog/web page to be set up in advance for ‘re-form’ so this can be done on the day as part of the event.

Project: Prototype for Card holder

Ingredients

- newspaper

Tools

-Scissors

Inspiration

-’Ready Made’

 Created (Process)

-Prototype card holder

Reflections

Needs to be bigger and stronger, (find and collect cardboard), but like idea.

Questions

How to attach things to the walls? (What am i allowed to use)

Will people create their own blog/recipe cards, what will the format be, do I need a laptop and printer on site (if so, I need to book one out)

Vase 2

Project: Vase2

Ingredients

- 2 pop bottles

- 2 sheets of newspaper

Tools

 Found

 Created (Process)

- Second version of vases

- folded labels

Reflections

I like how the newspaper seems to grow out of nowhere, the bottle almost invisible. I like the simplicity of the form and how it reflects the lines of the window, the simplest things can create decoration.

Questions

I began to develop the idea further, with the third bottle, but didn’t have suitable tools.
